Tag: What's in My Makeup Bag? (The Make-up Blogette's 700 followers contest)

I decided to do this tag since I was packing for my holiday. Note that I don't usually carry everything you see in the pic above with me everyday.

On most days, the items I carry with me are:

  • Gatsby oil clear sheet pack
  • MAC Studio Finish concealer
  • The Body Shop Vitamin E lipbalm
  • Benefit lipstick in My Treat
  • Maybelline compact mirror
  • dental floss

And the expanded version of my makeup bag for travel this time around (which is on top of the items listed above):

  • MAC Studio Perfect SPF15 powder foundation in NC35 (not my everyday foundation, only trying to finish it up)
  • Clinique Superfit Makeup liquid foundation in Neutral (also not my everyday foundation, but it's in a travel-size bottle)
  • Smashbox Baked Blush and Loose Shimmer Powder in Candlelit
  • Smashbox eye shadow quad in VIP
  • Canmake Four Shiny Eyes palette (given away by eclecticsatire)
  • YSL Touch Eclat in shade 1 Luminous Radiance
  • Hollywood Secrets eyebrow pencil in brown
  • MAC powerpoint pencil in Duck
  • The Face Shop eye shimmer liner pencil in Dark Blue
  • Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Blush
  • Phyto 7 Daily Hydrating Botanical Cream
  • Carmex cherry lipbalm
  • Benefit depuffing action eye gel (not my usual eyecream, but this tube is small enough to carry around)
  • RMK creamy makeup base
  • Lanvin Eclat d'Arpege perfume
  • Clinelle purifying toner (not my usual toner, but since I have it in sample size)
  • Superdrug Vitamin E facial cleansing wipes
  • Misc. sample packs of moisturizers/serum

So there you have it. I may not be using everything that I'm bringing with me. It's that feeling you get, like you just might need something, so why not just bring it with you. In other words, I might have overpacked. Haha! And in case you've noticed, there's no mascara in there.

We do love the make-up blogette!!

Tag: 6 products I can't live without

I was tagged by ladeekim to find 6 products that I can't live without. I didn't know if it was just makeup related or not. So mine is a mix of makeup stuff with other products.

My list is not brand specific. The picture is just for illustration. lol.

1. Eyebrow pencil (I've been using Hollywood Secrets eyebrow pencil in brown for a very long time now, I feel that my face looks naked without my brows filled in)

2. Eyeliner pencil (Any colour really, not just black. I have quite a number of pencils in my stash. Makes my eyes look more defined)

3. Moisturiser with SPF (It's easier than having a separate sun block to apply on top of your moisturiser, especially when you're rushing for work in the morning. I only slap on extra sun block when I'm gonna be outdoors the whole day and it's damn sunny)

4. Foundation (I've lived without foundation for most of my life. That was before I started dabbling in makeup. Now I find that it helps to even out my skintone, hide away the redness, etc. It's not like I can't live without it, but I could use some, y'know, to help along the way)

5. Hair conditioner (I use it everyday after washing my hair, makes hair softer, easier to comb, I feel weird if I don't condition)

6. Lip balm (working in an air-conditioned space can dry out my lips. So this is to moisturise and keep them soft. I also apply some if I'm gonna be sleeping with the aircon on, but not when it's just the fan blowing)

Tag: My first MAC purchase

I was tagged by Michelle (icefrost). Took me a while to get this done but here it is. Thanks babe!

My first MAC purchase was a rather big one, meaning to say it wasn't just a one item purchase kinda thing that I had been lemming for. It was back in 2005. I was gonna get ROM-ed and apart from getting a cheongsam tailor-made for the occasion, I didn't do much for the hair and makeup. I suppose I just wasn't into makeup then. Even though I knew I had to look presentable, I didn't engage the services of a makeup artist. So a few days before the actual day, I went to MAC and asked for some advice. The BA was very nice and after telling him what I was gonna wear etc, he recommended me all the stuff I needed and he showed me how to apply everything. He went for a soft subtle look. On the actual day, I just replicated what he taught me. These are the items I remember buying.

1. Studio Perfect foundation NC35

2. Studio Finish concealer C25

3. Powder Blush in Pinch O' Peach (that's what's left of it today. I still love it dearly cos it's my first blush ever)

4. Eyeshadow in Mylar and Petalescent (I think the latter has been discontinued. I still have plenty left of both!!)

5. Holiday brush set. I've been looking high and low for it for a while now, but I have no idea where I kept the box along with some brushes still inside. It seems to have disappeared. I think that alone cost me S$75. I'm still actively using the 129SE blush brush that came with it though and I love it so much.

Yup, I think that's about it. My first MAC purchase. Hope you enjoyed reading this entry!

Tag: Beautiful Blogger Award

I was nominated by thefacepalette to do this Beautiful Blogger award tag. I was really surprised, so thank you so much!! Sorry for taking so long to do the tag, I was busy all week at work, and when I come home at the end of the day, I can't think much really. Haha.

This is how it goes:

1. Thank the person who gave you the award

2. Paste the award on your blog

3. Link the person who nominated you for the award

4. Tell 7 interesting things about yourself

5. Nominate 7 bloggers or less

6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominated.

OK 7 interesting things about myself. That's hard to do, cos I don't know what counts as interesting and what is not.

1) I have a lot of hair on my head, at least that's what hairdressers always tell me. That's a good thing I suppose, but apart from that I don't like my natural hair. It's wavy in the worst ways (hereditary from my mum's side) and it can become puffy with the wrong hairstyle cos of too much volume. So when I discovered rebonding, it was like a miracle had happened. I've rebonded my hair a few times since (permed it once before too but that's a different story), despite knowing that all these chemical treatments aren't healthy at all. Nowadays I end up with lots of split ends. But well, it makes life much easier as I don't need to spend time fussing over my unruly hair too much and don't have as many bad hair days as I would with my natural hair. It's really not worth it to wake up with bad hair and waste time trying to tame it into something that looks good, trust me.

2) I have difficulties swallowing pills and tablets. It's a real problem when I fall sick. So when I do, it's a nightmare when it comes to taking medicine cos I really have to put in effort and force myself, thereby making myself feel sicker. For the same reason, I don't take any health supplements though I think I need to. I can be a real hypochondriac at times too.

3) I have a short attention span. Sometimes I might look like I'm listening, but my mind is actually wandering or just plain blank, or thinking about something else that's bothering me. In the same way, I can't sit still at home and watch a full movie cos I'll get distracted by other things. So the only time I'll watch a movie from start to finish without leaving the seat will be at the cinema.

4) I feel queasy at the sight of blood like from a cut or something, but not if i squashed a mosquito that was sucking on my blood. If that makes sense. Lol.

5) I am pretty emotional. My eyes naturally well up when I see other people crying.

6) I am very self-conscious about my teeth, so you won't ever see a picture of me with my teeth showing. I had braces done the day after I turned 27. Talk about a birthday present to myself, somewhat masochistic no? lol. I've had a crossover bite since young. I'm not sure if it's the correct term though. I bet you've heard of overbite (where the front top teeth stick out far above the bottom teeth) or underbite (which is like the opposite of overbite and where the lower jaw protrudes more than the upper jaw). Well mine was a mix of both. I had the left side of my front teeth behind my lower teeth and the right side of my front teeth over my lower teeth (which is the way it should normally be). I don't know if you can picture that with my explanation, but to keep it simple, let's just say that my teeth were misaligned, therefore the need for braces. I regret not doing it when I was younger, but well it's never too late. It's just that now my teeth are in a bad shape due to wear and tear cos of the misalignment. Hence, my self-consciousness.

7) I had lasik operation done in 2008. My vision is far from perfect though. It's blurry in dim lighting, but otherwise it's good. I don't know if I should go back to have a checkup, but all the same I'm happy for not having to wear specs anymore. It's only since doing the op that I started buying and using makeup.

I don't know who has done or not done this tag. Looks like so many of you out there has done it already. So I'm not nominating anyone in particular. If you haven't done so and want to, then just do it!!

Thanks for reading.

Tag: Drugstore Wishlist

I was tagged by heavenlygorgeous for this tag and it's my first tag ever! Thanks love!

Ok well, I haven't stepped in a Watsons or Guardian for a very very long time. You know..to avoid the temptation of grabbing stuff that I don't need? So erm..I'm kinda lost on what's new on the shelves and all. Anyways, I'm gonna try to get a list together before I get too lazy to do this tag. And well I believe not all products mentioned here are locally available.

First up, Gransenbon Granblush blushes. They are sooo pretty OMG. I own 5 of these currently, four bought at full retail price (SGD29.90) at Watsons and one is "second-hand" acquired from a beauty community at a discounted price. The shades I have are: 04 Orange Brown, 09 Apricot Ginger, 11 Sugar Marmalade, 12 Peach Rose, 13 Cherry Fromage. The only reason I don't own ALL of them (despite my love for these blushes) is the price. I wanted to faint at the total cost of buying them all. So I only chose 4 to buy (#04, #11, #12, #13) the first time round, and was lucky to score one more at a cheaper price. When they were first launched, they used to have a very prominent stand with testers and all, but now that the hype has died down, they occupy a small space on the Watsons shelves in the kawaii corner. Whenever I step into the Watsons near my place, I go and see whether they are still around. Haha. And always always hoping they'd be on sale or something, but it has never happened til now. So yeah, still hoping to get more of these before they're discontinued or something.

Next up, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color. I have not tried this but I'm sold on the description alone. One Stroke! One Coat! Done! Dries in 60 seconds! Does it really live up to it? Plus they come in pretty funky colours too with cute names like Mauve It, Grape Going!, Night Flight, Jumpin' Jade, Uptempo Plum..you get the idea. ANd while we're still at Sally Hansen, I also wanna give Dry Kwik a try after reading Kas's review on it.

I have yet to try any drugstore foundations. Not like I'm a snob when it comes to foundations or anything, but would you believe that I've never really worn foundation til I was 26 years old? And that was only because I was getting married and I went to MAC and got my first Studio Perfect Foundation compact. So yeah, I just jumped right into MAC like that with no prior dabbling in L'Oreal or Revlon or Maybelline. I only started liking makeup like 1 year ago? No kidding. So yeah I'd like to try that sometime. Revlon's PhotoReady foundation looks pretty good. And if only I knew my shade for True Match or ZA or something. I'm just scared to buy it by myself. It's like I need someone next to me to tell me, yeah this is the shade you should get, cos I have trouble judging by myself. Haha.

Ooh Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel CreamLiner. Been seeing reviews on these and boy do the shades look good. The application is reported to be great, and for the price (USD10.95) it looks totally worth it to have 3 different shades. Read nymphette's and Beautopia's reviews and you will know. There are three custom shades to enhance your eye colour (but doesn't mean you have to restrict yourself to buying the brown stack if your eyes are naturally brown/dark brown, you can also get the hazel, green or the blue stacks as well. The more the merrier right?). Long-wearing, water-resistant and smudge-resistant. Hey I'm sold. The design of stackable pots also make it convenient to detach them for individual use, or to mix and match them on the go.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer...just because it's from Neutrogena and it looks promising. I'm kinda attracted to Neutrogena products. Must be those dermatologist-approved vibes I get from their products. Haha.

So that concludes my drugstore wishlist. I'm sure there's plenty more, just can't think of them right now.

Photo Tag

Thank you Amy (purplio) for tagging me! I was kinda surprised that I got tagged. I wasn't expecting it at all, mostly cos I'm fairly new over here and haven't met any of you the way you all have during the recent Xmas gathering. Anyway, yeah, I guess this is a good opportunity to introduce myself to you ladies, and show my face a little. Lol.

The rules:

  1. open your 1st photo folder in "My Pictures"
  2. scroll to the 10th photo
  3. post that photo on your site and write about the story behind it
  4. state who you got the tag from on your post
  5. then tag 6 blogs

I thought it would be tricky to find a pic. My Pictures in My Documents doesn't contain any pics of me, mostly misc things. Like Chantana (everbluec), my pics are stored on an external drive. And in the first folder, I found this as my 10th pic. This was taken by my then-bf and now-hubby in January 2002. I think I was sick with fever and I was trying to sleep. And he just had to take a pic cos I was holding the carebear.  LoL. Yeah. I used to have fever quite often last time cos I was tired all the time.

So that was me 8 years ago, I was so young! I'm Jennifer by the way. :)

Ok, tagging time. This is hard cos by now, you all probably got tagged, and I don't know that many people!!

and whoever else is reading this and wants to do it...
