Belated Birthday celebration with friends

Yesterday night was a good night, filled with great company, food and makeup goodies. A big thank you to Sophia, Kim, Amy, Jerlaine and Kas for the presents and the awesome cake, and also to Gwen who came to meet us too.

Dinner was at Everything with Fries (EwF) at Orchard Central. We each had a Har Jeong Kai burger meal with either sour cream and onion fries and garlic fries. The serving is pretty generous for a $9.90 meal and I personally couldn't finish this.

(Most pics below taken with my iPhone3GS)

The birthday cake! The girls had lighted a candle and were waiting to surprise me with this yummy looking chocolate cake on the table while I was away in the washroom. This cake is from Awfully Chocolate which, as it turns out, are the same people behind EwF.

The presents! Urban Decay Mariposa palette and fresh Brown Sugar edp. I am so happy with my gifts. Been lemming for both and now I can strike them off my wishlist.

That was not all. More goodies were exchanged and passed around. Everytime we meet it's like Christmas.

Benefit velvet eyeshadows from Jerlaine's mini spree. I chose a couple of neutral shades in Fawn Over Me and Tickled Mink.

Beauty.com F&F 20% sale spree items from Gwen. I got a large Z-palette after I filled my first one with Inglot eyeshadow pans, and also bought the Cargo Safari collection that Kim recommended to me. It comes with a full-sized blush in Coral Beach, an eyeshadow duo in gold and olive green shades, an eye pencil in khaki, a lip gloss in Serengeti and a mascara. Not bad for USD34 when a blush by itself costs USD28. Comes in a cute little pouch.

My first Cargo blush:

After dinner, we trooped to Lush which had just opened at Wisma Atria. It's just like a candy store. Everything looks so yummy and smells good. I didn't buy anything there and then, but I'm sure I'll be back to check out the store soon.

Last stop for the day was Sephora and I walked out with 2 tokidoki palettes.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils haul and swatches

This is my little stash of UD 24/7 glide-on shadow pencils, spreed from the UD website during the F&F sale and also during another 20% sale I think. I definitely didn't buy them at full price.

Out of the 12 available shades, these are what I have.

Barracuda: Black with silver sparkle

Delinquent: Purple with purple sparkle

Mercury: Gunmetal

Rehab: Taupe

Sin: Champagne

Wasteland: Dark brown

I love these. Once they set, they don't budge. Love using them as liner.

A few months ago, I redeemed my Sephora vouchers and included this Sephora jumbo liner pencil in Taupe in my basket. The Sephora taupe is slightly different from the UD taupe. The texture of the Sephora pencil is also creamier and softer in comparison and takes longer to set, making it easier to blend if you're gonna use it as an eyeshadow. Otherwise, just like UD, it seems budge-proof. It is also at a fraction of the cost of the UD pencils at SGD17.

more hauls: Calvin Klein, Urban Decay, Too Faced

All of you who have read my previous entry or followed me on twitter would surely know about the whole eyeshadow incident. I had bought a Too Faced eyeshadow duo at the Sephora sales but hadn't checked the condition until I reached home, only to find that it was broken to pieces. Made calls to Sephora outlets, was told that I could go back to do an exchange, and then told that I couldn't...Anyway, lovely Kim called me on Saturday to let me know that I could go back for an exchange. Oh joy! She happened to go back to Suntec and took the opportunity to ask them personally. That was soooo thoughtful! And so, I got ready and left home....without the receipt!..which I only realized after getting on the train! I was so irritated, debating in my head whether it was worth it to go back home to get it. In the end, I made a U-turn, walked back home in the sweltering heat to grab the receipt, and walked back to the train station. I was thinking it would be over soon enough. Lost 20-30 minutes going back and forth, but hey, better be safe than sorry. So I got there, showed the girl the eyeshadow, which she acknowledged as broken, and she asked me to choose another one. I asked her if she needed to see the receipt and she said that it wasn't necessary. A please-kill-me-now thought ran through my head, but like I said, better safe than sorry.

And because Kim tweeted about new stuff being sold at Room 202, I went to have a look. I guess I shouldn't have done that because I ended up buying more stuff. More of the same, none of the new.

  • UD eyeshadow in Toasted (one of those that I had put back on the table the day before)
  • UD lipsticks in Requiem (deep neutral) and Trainwreck (fuchsia)
  • Too Faced eyeshadow duo in Shamrock Chic (Chocolate Brown and Iced Sage - like a pale green)
  • ck eyeshadow in emerald (didn't see this on the first day as there was no tester for this)
  • ck brow pencil in brunette (SGD10)

And here is Lucky Charms in one piece...

I realize now that I have bought a lot of greens and browns in my latest hauls, and I'm not even going through a phase. Pure coincidence I suppose...

haul: Calvin Klein, Urban Decay, Too Faced, Mario Badescu

It was such a spontaneous decision to meet up with Kim and the rest at Suntec yesterday morning. I was still lazing in bed catching up on my twitter timeline, and after reading about them meeting up, I looked at the time and thought that I wouldn't be too late if I quickly got ready and zoomed out of the house. Which I promptly did. Reached Suntec slightly after 10am and Kim said she was queueing outside Room 202 where the first sale was supposed to be. I thought to myself  "Queue? Why is there a queue for the sale?" cos I was pretty surprised. So I joined Kim, Jane and Rusty (first time seeing her but I kinda knew who it was cos she is just as pretty as in her pictures). So we stood in line, talking, joking and wondering why the doors hadn't opened yet although it was way past 10am, the time at which the sale was supposed to start. Kim asked "how come all these people know of this sale ah?". Jane said "I wanna go ask the first person in the line what time she started queueing". I was thinking "How come this cosmetics sale so hot one?" And the demographics were kinda funny, there were those tai-tais with puffy hair and designer sunglasses, the girlfriends/wives who had dragged their boyfriends/husbands/kids over to queue with them..hmm..something looked a bit weird. I bet we even saw the banner promoting the Haute Avenue (designer bag importer) sales, but didn't think twice about it. And then, I saw people going into the next room (Room 202) which was already open, and realised that we were probably queueing at the wrong place. Jane quickly ran over to take a look and came out to call us in. It was the funniest thing ever, I swear. Hahaha! And we ran in and took over the cosmetics sales table and started swatching. Soon we were joined by Michelle, Joanna and Fatin (first time seeing her too *waves*). I don't know who else was there as these were the only people I knew. After Room 202,  we all headed to the Sephora sales on floor above.

Onto my hauls from Catwalk Alley and Sephora.

First pic is the stuff I bought from Room 202.

  • DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom 30ml (been wanting this since forever!)
  • BVLGARI Pour Homme Soir 50 ml (for the hubs. He adores this perfume and it was such a good buy at SGD52 for 50ml)
  • Maybelline Dream Mat Powder in 05 Apricot Beige (recommended by Kim and the salesperson said this shade would suit me just right. But I feel like the price is a bit high. SGD16 for drugstore powder?)
  • 3 ck eyeshadows in wedgwood, aqua shimmer and azure (SGD14 each)
  • 1 UD eyeshadow in Vert (SGD12 - usual USD17)
  • 1 UD dagger lipstick in Wanted (SGD14 - usual USD22, wanted Jailbait too (nude shade), but it was OOS)

The Sephora sale was kinda disappointing in a way. It was the second day, and there was nothing left that was super interesting. I still left with these two MD masks (2 for SGD40) and two Too Faced products (2 for SGD30). The MD masks retail at USD18 each online while the Two Faced lipgloss costs USD18 and Too Faced eyeshadow duo costs USD17. So I guess the sales weren't too bad from the price point of view.

SWATCHES:

I didn't check my items before leaving the place and only noticed THIS DISASTER when I got home. I called up Sephora ION, and the person said that I could go back for an exchange. I was so happy. I then called up Sephora NAC to confirm, and I was told that no exchange was possible for sales items. So i called Sephora ION back and someone else told me that I couldn't exchange bla bla. I geddit! But why didn't the first person tell me NO straight away. Pui! I wasted 3 calls. This is Too Faced Lucky Charms, an eyeshadow duo that's now a broken shattered single. I was astounded by its beauty when I swatched it. Super smooth and pigmented. The shades of green were distinct from each other (emerald foil and golden light green), but now it's just one big mess. Ughhhh!

Kim, Jane and I all bought these 3 ck shades. Love at first sight for the three of us. They are powdery soft and have nice colour payoff. The packaging is pretty sleek too and it comes with a small sponge applicator and mirror. I was tempted to get a ck powder foundation too (I think the salesperson recommended the shade in dune for me, it costs SGD39), but didn't in the end cos I have way too many face products to finish up.

My lippie products: Too Faced Girls Dig Pearls lipgloss in Pink Bling and Urban Decay lipstick in Wanted (warm berry).

Love the design although it's a bit bulky.

The Too Faced lipgloss has a nice peppermint smell to it and feels slightly tingly and refreshing at the same time on the lips. It's like a clear gloss with pink pearls, great for layering for extra oomph. The Urban Decay is creamy smooth and moisturizing, and smells of caramel. Mixed together it turns into a minty caramel concoction.

All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with everything, well minus the shattered eyeshadow...

YAY!! Another Sephora in town!!

Sephora is opening another outlet!! Where you ask? At Great World City! Next to Zara. Didn't go and check if they had the estimated date of opening printed on that piece of paper there near the door (see picture). I already felt a bit weird taking a photo of the wall. Was trying to look natural standing in front of it. Hopefully people didn't notice. LoL.

EDIT: I went to the door to read the notice. It's a renovation permit thing and it says that renovations will be carried out til 15 April. So it could be that Sephora will open by end of April?

MAC Too Fabulous haul

Oh nooooo!! I hauled! I know I know, this is not the reaction I would/should normally have after hauling. It's just that I'm trying hard not to haul anymore. I seriously have to stop, but how to with all the collections that MAC seems to be launching non-stop.

I went to Sephora first to use up my SGD40 voucher as it was expiring today. First thing I did when I stepped into Sephora was to head to the MAC counter to swatch the mineralize blush duos from the Too Fab collection. As reported by a few onsugarettes, they were all very shimmery. Half my brain was telling me not to get any, the other half was admiring the swatches and already contemplating which ones to get. LoL. I liked a few straight away cos they were very wearable colours, like Bi-Tone (Rose pink/copper bronze) and Sun And Moon (Neutral brown/pink brown). I then snapped out of my dreaminess. I had a mission to complete and so I headed to the Too Faced counter to swatch the leopard bronzer. I found the tester a bit icky, almost hitting pan with powder everywhere. I swiped my finger and it was kinda flaky, swatched it on my hand and found it shimmery, though I don't know if it was from the blush swatches. All mixed up. Haha. Anyway, decided not to get it, and went to swatch Sephora pencils instead. I already own a few of the waterproof flashy liners (pink, copper, brown and black) and love them cos they're creamy and smooth. I ended up with 2 electro liners (electro marine and electro night - SGD14 each) and 1 flashy liner (flashy blue - SGD12). Total came up to exactly SGD40, so I didn't need to top up a single cent. That was kinda satisfying!

I then headed to Tangs cos I wanted to have a look at the blushers again and I did another round of swatching. The lighting wasn't that good over there and I had to move away every time to find an angle where I could see the colour properly. With so much activity going on my part, the SA quickly approached me and told me to get those that I wanted now cos they'd run out of them fast. And the next moment, I was telling her, "OK, I want this, this and this".LoL. It's not that she convinced me to buy them by saying what she said, I guess subconsciously I knew that I'd get at least one no matter how much I wanted not to spend money. Seriously, these pictures had me at hello the first time I saw the sneak peek photos on musingsofamuse.

Here are the ones I bought.

Clockwise: Bi-Tone Rose pink/copper bronze, Buddy Up Dirty rose/neutral yellow pink, Sun & Moon Neutral brown/pink brown, Chic Couple Light yellow brown/dark peach.

The ones I missed out are Rhapsody in Two Light pale pink/pale peach (reminds me of Moon River) and Two Virtues Light blue pink/light violet.

Buddy Up was a last minute addition to my haul. I had asked for the other 3 first and lastly asked to add Buddy Up to the list cos the swatch came off very pretty and rosy. Now that I'm looking at my Buddy Up, I find the proportion of pink bigger than the rose part whereas the one I swatched at the counter had more rose than pink. Now I wonder if it will turn out too pinky instead.

Lastly, I managed to grab a copy of L'Officiel magazine WITH the quad included. (I was telling heavenlygorgeous about my fruitless searches for the quad cos some places sell the magazine without the quad, don't ask me why cos I'd also like to know). I got no3-chocolate plum. Not bad.

So this is it for today. Hope this was a fun read.

RMK base + MUFE HD foundation haul

So I did some hauling during the weekend. Went to the Tangs sale and got the RMK creamy make up base in both shades 00 and 01, seeing how highly raved these are. And I also had a SGD50 Sephora voucher about to expire, so I got myself the HD foundation, and paid SGD25 for it (MUFE HD foundation retails at SGD75!). I think I wouldn't have splurged on this if I didn't have the voucher to help me along.

Anyways, my initial intention was to get the Mat Velvet+, but the BA told me that it's meant more for people with very oily skin and that for me (mainly oily T-Zone), HD would be a better choice. I had a bare face then, and she tried 2 shades on me, each one of either side of my face. One was too light and made my face look much fairer, but the one that I got blended well and made me look like I wasn't wearing anything.

I gotta admit though that I was kinda disappointed with my experience with the MUFE BAs at Sephora ION. I was left standing there for a long while and no one approached me to ask me if I needed help. One was already attending to another customer, but the other one was doing nothing but preening over the mirror, brushing his eyebrows and admiring himself, and walking over to his co-workers to chit-chat. Really no sense of initiative and customer service. And because I was rushing for time, I had no choice but to interrupt the one who was already handling a customer as she was the one nearest to me. Oh wells.

Top-down: RMK shade 00, RMK shade 01, MUFE HD foundation

Ok so I have received presents from a few friends and colleagues.

First up, Illuminate Fantasy Collection from Beauté de Kosé Esprique Precious from my boss on Monday.

The set consists of a nail polish, glossy eye whatever (lots of glitter), face colour and brush, and lipgloss. The compact case is rather pretty and has a mirror inside.

Then this Sephora box today from my other colleagues.

Peek-a-boo...Oohh..out came a lovely scent...VS Berry Kiss hydrating body lotion

Ta-Daaa..and the rest of the treasure box revealed:

- Sephora blush in meringue jalouse

- MAC e/s in Ricepaper

- Sephora waterproof flashy liner in black

- Sephora waterproof khol and liner in keep blue

- MAC eye khol in Smolder

Lots of pencil liners huh? I like my pencils as much as my blushes, though now I'm somewhat gravitating towards eye shadows.

I should do a post on my collection of pencils soon yes?

hmm..also in the mail today 2 items that i bought online. Essence of Beauty crease duo brushes and MAC mineralize blush in Pleasantry.

And an email from CLEO informing me that I won a Veet hamper. I love winning prizes and this is almost like a birthday present too. This is the fifth hamper I've won from CLEO mag this year alone. Well worth my subscription. *grin*
