Belated Birthday celebration with friends

Yesterday night was a good night, filled with great company, food and makeup goodies. A big thank you to Sophia, Kim, Amy, Jerlaine and Kas for the presents and the awesome cake, and also to Gwen who came to meet us too.

Dinner was at Everything with Fries (EwF) at Orchard Central. We each had a Har Jeong Kai burger meal with either sour cream and onion fries and garlic fries. The serving is pretty generous for a $9.90 meal and I personally couldn't finish this.

(Most pics below taken with my iPhone3GS)

The birthday cake! The girls had lighted a candle and were waiting to surprise me with this yummy looking chocolate cake on the table while I was away in the washroom. This cake is from Awfully Chocolate which, as it turns out, are the same people behind EwF.

The presents! Urban Decay Mariposa palette and fresh Brown Sugar edp. I am so happy with my gifts. Been lemming for both and now I can strike them off my wishlist.

That was not all. More goodies were exchanged and passed around. Everytime we meet it's like Christmas.

Benefit velvet eyeshadows from Jerlaine's mini spree. I chose a couple of neutral shades in Fawn Over Me and Tickled Mink.

Beauty.com F&F 20% sale spree items from Gwen. I got a large Z-palette after I filled my first one with Inglot eyeshadow pans, and also bought the Cargo Safari collection that Kim recommended to me. It comes with a full-sized blush in Coral Beach, an eyeshadow duo in gold and olive green shades, an eye pencil in khaki, a lip gloss in Serengeti and a mascara. Not bad for USD34 when a blush by itself costs USD28. Comes in a cute little pouch.

My first Cargo blush:

After dinner, we trooped to Lush which had just opened at Wisma Atria. It's just like a candy store. Everything looks so yummy and smells good. I didn't buy anything there and then, but I'm sure I'll be back to check out the store soon.

Last stop for the day was Sephora and I walked out with 2 tokidoki palettes.

Haul: Urban Decay 15-Year Anniversary goodies

These are some Urban Decay 15-Year Anniversary goodies that I hauled earlier this year. They are still BNIB up til now. Oops! Yeah, I haven't had the heart or the time to start using them, so I have no swatches to show you. Nothing that google can't help you with though. :)

Sleek haul: Oh So Special palette & Monaco palette

Adding two more Sleek palettes to my collection: the Oh So Special palette and the Monaco palette from the Meditarranean collection.

The Oh So Special palette looked like a must-have when I first saw it. It consists of a mélange of 7 matte and 5 metallic shades in neutral coulours, something that can be used everyday.

According to Sleek, it’s the ultimate i-Divine that every woman should have in her possession, with 12 flattering on-trend shades to suit all skin tones no matter what the occasion. Go from day time chic with matte browns and creamy beiges to sultry evening glamour with shimmering grays and smokey plums.

Here are the swatches:

Glitz reminded me of MAC Knight Divine. The colour looks the same in the pan.

When swatched, however, there's a slight difference in shade with Knight Divine being darker than Glitz.

This is the Monaco palette which is a limited edition palette from the Meditarranean collection. The colour mix in this one is very vibrant and fun, and to be honest, I'm not sure if I would use some of these colours e.g Kiwi Zest. It just doesn't feel like me. But overall, it looks like a nice palette to have. Again it's a mixture of 7 matte and 5 metallic/shimmery shades.

Product Highlight: Clarins Ombre Minérale 4 Couleurs in 04 Indigo & 06 Graphites

Ombre Minérale 4 Couleurs in 04 Indigo

This palette consists of a periwinkle shade (base), a light shimmery grey that almost looks white (highlight), a shimmery dark blue (liner) and a pewter shade (base).

Swatched dry the first time, I was puzzled as to why the colours wouldn't show up clearly. I guess I'm used to seeing eyeshadows having good colour payoff at first swipe and I was expecting the same of this quad. This is the initial swatch I had.

I then decided to swatch them with a damp brush. Lo and behold, it made such a big difference to the colour payoff.

And this is a second "dry" swatch, a bit less pigmented but much better than the first time.

Ok surprise! I'm posting a LOTD.

Main products used:

Foundation: Illamasqua Matte Primer, Clarins Extra-Firming Foundation in 105 Nude, MAC MSFN in Medium Plus

Eyes: Clarins Ombre Minérale 4 Couleurs in 04 Indigo, mostly using the periwinkle blue all over the lids, MAC Powerpoint pencil in Engraved, no mascara

Cheeks: Clarins Colour Definition 3D Radiance Face Powder

Lips: Clarins Rouge Prodige in 115 Rosy Coral

Ombre Minérale 4 Couleurs in 06 Graphites

This quad is made up of a pretty iridescent pink (base), a glittery silver (highlight), a matte black (liner), and a dark grey (base).

Initial swatches for Graphites were so much better than Indigo.

I also swatched them wet.

Followed by another dry swatch.

I almost forget to mention that the quads come with these 2 foam applicators, one is rounded and one has a sharper end.

And the latter is what I used to do this winged liner look.

Foundation: Illamasqua Matte Primer, Clarins Extra-Firming Foundation in 108 Sand, MAC MSFN in Medium Plus

Eyes: UDPP in Sin, Clarins Ombre Minérale 4 Couleurs in 06 Graphites, using the pink on the lids and the matte black for the "wing", Clarins Instant Liner in black closer to the lashline, no mascara

Cheeks: Clarins Colour Definition 3D Radiance Face Powder

Lips: Clarins Joli Rouge in 733 Fig

And another LOTD using the same foundation and other face products as above.

Eyes: UDPP in Eden, Clarins Ombre Minérale 4 Couleurs in 06 Graphites, this time using dark grey all over the lids and pink in the inner corner of the eyes and lightly on the crease, Clarins Instant Liner in black close to the upper lashline, Stila kajal eye liner in topaz on lower lashline, mascara (but you can't see it, that's how droopy my eyelashes get in no time even after curling).

Cheeks: Clarins Colour Definition 3D Radiance Face Powder

Lips: Clarins Rouge Prodige in 115 Rosy Coral

Overall, despite the initial disappointment which quickly dissipated, I must admit that the colours stay on really really well, even without a primer (like in the first blue LOTD). They do not crease after a whole day out and I was surprised and particularly amazed by that. The range of colours go well together and are easy to match without much thinking. They are versatile and you can definitely do a few looks with them. Each palette comes in the signature gold case and red velvet pouch.

Each palette retails for $72, available at all Clarins counters from Aug 1 2011.

Product Highlight: Clarins NEO Pastels Spring 2011 Make-Up Collection

Clarins' new make-up collection for Spring 2011 will be available at all Clarins counters from 14th Feb onwards. It's like there's no better day than Valentine's Day to launch this collection full of pastel and neutral shades, perfect for a romantic subtle look.

The collection is pretty big in terms of colours. Here's the lowdown on the shades that will be available.

NEO Pastels Eye Colour & Liner Palette (Limited Edition)

contents: 9g / 0.31 oz for $72

The star of the collection is limited edition. This watercolour palette for the eyes is housed in Clarins' signature gold casing and has complimentary shades of browns, pinks and violets. The eyeshadows can be applied both dry and wet, depending on the intensity you are seeking. There's also a black eyeliner to give eyes more depth. The case comes in a red velvet pouch, has a mirror and an accompanying double-ended foam applicator, one for eyeshadow and one for the eyeliner. Very light and travel-friendly.

Here are swatches of the real thing.

6 shades of Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour

contents: 7.5g / 0.26 oz for $52

  • 01. lovely rose
  • 02. soft peach
  • 03. miami pink
  • 04. sunset coral
  • 05. rose wood
  • 06. spiced mocha

Look at those colours! Worth drooling over, yes? (I'm a sucker for blushes!). And such a variety of shades to match different skintones.

Each blush contains a matte shade to sculpt the face and an iridescent one to highlight facial contours. Can you make the two different shades from the pic?

The plus of the Blush Prodige is its new texture that includes mineral pigments and plant extracts - bamboo powder and tomato extract - to guarantee a radiant, healthy glow. It comes in a square gold case with mirror and a super soft brush, not forgetting the red velvet pouch. I wore this and it lasted me the whole day without any fading.

Swatches from left to right: matte, highlight and both blended together.

4 shades of Rouge Hydra Nude Smoothing Cream Lipstick with SPF6 (Limited Edition)

contents: 3g / 0.1 oz for $35

  • 01. nude rose
  • 02. nude coral
  • 03. nude beige
  • 04. nude caramel

I opened these and I was like, omg yummy!! The caramel scent is pretty strong there and smells so good. I also dig the packaging: the translucent cap together with the ombre sunset colour that is so reminescent of summer. I find it so attractive, young and playful! And that is not all. On top of gorgeous neutral colours, this lipstick offers skin care benefits too. Clarins Laboratories are forever improving their formula and have come up with a lisptick that moisturizes and nourishes lips, repairs and protects them, while smoothing and enhancing their natural beauty with natural tones. Indeed, the lipstick apply smoothly as the texture is very creamy.

If you need to know, there's:

  1. SPF6 to protect against the harmful effects of the sun
  2. Hydracire S (a combination of three waxes: sunflower, mimosa and jojoba) and mango butter to make lips visibly smoother
  3. Vit E to preserve the youthfulness of lips and slow the effects of ageing
  4. Vit A to encourage cell renewal and shea to soothe dry or damaged lips
  5. Gamma oryzanol to boost microcirculation

3 new shades of Joli Rouge Brillant Perfect Shine Sheer Lipstick (Permanent)

contents: 3.5g / 0.12 oz for $33

Three new permanent shades in

  • 12. litchi
  • 13. cherry
  • 14. grape

These smell really good too, very fruity. Again, very light and flirty in the spirit of spring/summer. The "Extreme Shine" complex in these make for fuller-looking lips and the colour glides on effortlessly. It also contains mango butter to repair, nourish and protect lips against dehydration.

From left to right: Joli Rouge Brillant (oval shape tube) and Rouge Hydra Nude (square tube) lipsticks

The pigments in the Joli Rouge Brillant lipstick that make it so shiny and give a multi-facetted effect on the lips.

Instant Smooth Line Correcting Concentrate

contents: 3ml / 0.09 oz for $45

This new product is based on the Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch (released in 2006) which is an invisible make-up base that smooths away lines and enlarged pores. Using the same concept, Clarins has created the Instant Smooth Line Correcting Concentrate in the form of a pen that twists to release a texture enriched with Dermaxyl, a line-repairing peptide. This makes skin appear instantly smoother and more even. The pen's precision tip is made as such to ensure targeted application at the heart of the wrinkle for optimal effectiveness.

Wonder Volume Mascara

contents: 7ml / 0.25 oz

In shade 01 Wonder Black. Made to perfectly coat and thicken lashes.

My favourite items from this collection have got to be the limited edition Hydra Rouge lipsticks. The shades and the scent rock, and I'm looking forward to swatching more of these along with the blushes! If you like anything you see here, go and check out the collection when it launches on Feb 14!

more Sleek makeup palettes swatches

I have added 3 more Sleek makeup palettes to my collection. They are: Sparkle and Curious which are limited edition palettes, and Bad Girl which is now part of the permanent line. I've had Bad Girl and Sparkle (LE for Holiday 2010) since last year but I've been lazy to swatch and post them up. As for Curious, I had the chance to get it through Kas who ordered it on eBay recently.

This is the Bad Girl i-Divine palette which you can still order from sleek's website. (I realize l call it Bad Gal instead of Bad Girl. Oops! Must be influenced by Benefit's Bad Gal mascara). Love the colours of this palette which is a mixture of matte and pearlescent shades. Sleek has also put names to the eyeshadows in this particular palette as well as in the Sparkle palette, which is kinda neat.

Some shades tend to be more crumbly than others, causing some fall-out, but they are all undeniably  pigmented.

I can't be sure, but Noir (simply translated as Black) seems to be a repeated shade throughout all palettes. It is your most basic black. My other sleek palettes also have a black shade in each and every one of them, and though the eyeshadows are not labelled, I take it that it's Noir.

Intoxicated and Envy are greens. Envy particularly swatched very dark. I was most surprised with Obnoxious though. It's like this pretty violet blue shade when you look at it, but it swatched like a weird blue on my hand and it looks like it stains.

Sparkle palette, limited edition, can't find it on the website anymore. Every shade, except for Noir, Gold Ribbon and Tinsel, is loaded with sparkles, some more than others.

I didn't know of the existence of the Curious palette until Kas told me about it. Googled it, saw it, ordered it and don't regret getting it cos it's so pretty. Pigmentation is top-notch and the colours are really wearable. I especially love the 3rd and 5th on the top row and the 4th on the bottom row (see how much harder it is to identify something with no name?)

So now I have 6 sleek palettes in all. Me loves all of them!

If you wanna see the other three palettes that I've swatched, click here. They're part of the permanent line, so if you wanna get them, you won't have to search high and low for them.

my Sleek makeup palettes - swatches!

As requested, here are the swatches of the Sleek palettes...Very few matte colours: the black (top row 1st from left ) in the Original, a beigey-brown (top row 3rd from left) and a dark brown and black (last 2 from right) in the Storm, and another black in the Sunset palette. You can easily tell the difference from the non-shimmery look. The texture can be a bit particle-like when you first pick up the colour. I think it's because of the waffle-like texture it's pressed in. Otherwise it's really really smooth when applied.

.

So, are the swatches enticing you to get any?

my Sleek makeup palettes

These are the Sleek makeup palettes that I bought through Dyan's and Kas's sprees. Highly pigmented colours that need no introduction.

I originally ordered these 3 from Dyan, but due to some mix-up on Sleek's side, I was sent 1 Sunset and 2 Storm palettes. And then Kas's spree opened and I wanted to get Circus (LE palette currently on sale on Sleek makeup's website) and the Original since I didn't have it. But I kinda missed the quota for Circus and so I ended up with the Original only. And in a great turn of events, Kas picked up the extra Storm palette from me (It's great to be of help like that. hee~).

OK well check out the colours, they are so very wearable for everyday outings, be it work or play. All 3 are part of their regular line. There are 2 other palettes in their regular line called Acid and Chaos that have much brighter colours. You can take a look at the Acid and Circus (LE) palettes on Kas's entry here.
