Product Highlight: Clarins Rouge Prodige (115 Rosy Coral) & Joli Rouge (733 Fig)

In the Colour Definition make-up collection for Autumn 2011, Clarins introduces 2 new shades of Joli Rouge and 3 new shades of Rouge Prodige, all of which are now part of the permanent line.

Here's what I have to show you:

Left: Rouge Prodige True-Hold Colour & Shine lipstick in 115 Rosy Coral

Right: Joli Rouge Long-Wearing Moisturizing lipstick in 733 Fig

Swatches:

Couldn't get decent pictures of my lips, so please excuse these replacements.

The Rouge Prodige was a tad drier to apply than the Joli Rouge which literally glided over my lips like butter. I can hear you say duh, it's not called a moisturizing lipstick for nothing. Indeed, its creamy texture contains mango butter which goes further to nourish and protect the lips.

The smell of the lipstick is a big draw too. They smell sooo goooood making them even harder to resist. I'm not good at describing smells but the Rouge Prodige is like candy and the Joli Rouge like Ribena pastilles (ok not sure where that came from, just that it has this grape-y fruity scent). They are both a pleasure to have on the lips.

Rouge Prodige in Rosy Coral, being lighter in colour compared to Joli Rouge in Fig, added a slight pink tinge to my lips, nothing too obvious but pretty nonetheless. Fig showed up much better.

Each lipstick retails for $35, available at all Clarins counters from Aug 1 2011.

Product Highlight and Review: Clarins Barocco Festive Make-Up Collection 2010

Presenting to you Clarins' Barocco Festive Make-Up Collection which consists of four limited edition items that have been available at all Clarins counters since Nov 15. Have you seen them yet? If you haven't, read on and discover them together with me.

At first glance, the promotional image exudes sensuality, mystery and elegance all at the same time by portraying a classic look of smoky eyes and bold red lips. The Barocco collection provides all the ingredients to put this look together. All four items are decorated with the same ornate design of a black scroll over a gold background, making it really luxurious and distinct from anything else I have.

Gold Shimmer Powder for Face & Decollete - S$70 (36g)

This is the first item I opened up cos I couldn't wait to see what's inside. I had a bit of trouble lifting the lid off cos it was so tight, and had to use a bit of force to twist the lid from left to right to loosen it up. That done, I saw the accompanying black puff already covered with gold dust. I was careful when taking it out fearing that there would be an explosion of shimmer everywhere. I couldn't have been more right. A lot of the gold shimmer fell onto the floor when the puff was released from the confines of the cylinder box as well as when I pushed it back in later on, due to the gust of air that went in with the action. Quite a messy affair! I blame the transportation for shaking the box around and loosening the gold dust everywhere.

The inside of the box contains delicate nuggets of golden pearl. Super luxe and dazzling I would say, especially when you see them shine in the sunlight. The black puff is incredibly soft, and quite a delight to touch and feel against the skin.

The nuggets erode into smaller pieces of gold, which crumble into finer gold shimmer when you crush them. Apply too much and you're sparkle central, but apply lightly and loosely and you have subtle shimmer on your skin.

Eye Colour Trio - S$64 (1.5g)

The emblematic gold case contains three gorgeous baked eyeshadows: matte black, marbled gold and black, and gold. A play on light and shade that can be carried from day to night. It comes with a mirror and a double-tipped foam applicator, one to shade and blend, the other shaped for more precise application on the eye contour and eyelid crease.

I've worn the middle shade to work for three days straight. It's not too overwhelming and to lighten it up further, I used what looks like a pale green eyeliner (this is actually Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof eyeliner in shade 44 Golden Grey Session). You could create a really simple smoky look with just the middle bronzy colour alone. There was no need to blend it to death, the colour created itself beautifully and effortlessly on the eyelid with just a few swipes of the brush. If you would like to make your smoky look even more pronounced for night, use the dark shade to line the eyes and blend into the eyelid crease, and add a touch of gold to the inner corner of the eyes.

Face Palette - S$64 (13g)

I was taken by surprise by the weight of this palette. It is pretty heavy, undoubtedly the heaviest piece of make-up item I have come across so far. I've weighed the compact and it's a hefty 188g! It comes in a red velvet pouch (the same kind that comes with the Clarins Hydra Luminous Flawless Powder Foundation) and with its gorgeous design, it looks like a jewellery box from the outside, somewhere where you'd keep your precious earrings or necklace. The treasure hiding inside the box however is a dual-shade powder in pinky-peach and sandy-beige colours. The beautiful scroll design of the powder matches the outside of the case and looks so delicate and pretty. The powder is soft and finely-milled, smooth to the touch.

The compact comes with a mirror, but there's no brush or puff. Hence, I doubt that carrying this around in your bag for quick touch-ups is a good idea. It's heavy and you'll need to carry a separate brush.

I thought this wouldn't show on me, but after a few layers, the pink left a light natural flush to my cheeks. The beige powder is slightly shimmery too, perfect for illuminating the face.

Rouge Prodige - S$35 (3g)

I've never worn such a dark colour before. I find that dark colours make my lips look thinner. After blotting this off with tissue, I was left with a lighter berry shade that doesn't look as fierce. The colour is really pigmented and long lasting.
